I just setup dual boot with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my Windows 7 machine. I can connect to the internet just fine when I boot to Windows; however, when I boot to Ubuntu I can't connect to the internet via a wired connection. I went into the console window and typed ifconfig -a to see if my Ethernet card was visible but it wasn't.
Hi There,
Apologies if this isn't really an Ubuntu question. I just think its likely someone here will know the answer...
Simply put, I want to simulate two home networks, connecting together over the internet.
We have our network setup using static IP's, so I have my Ethernet connection setup as Manual with our IP, Gateway and DNS, usually on all systems this gets us out on the internet. I have tried installing Ubuntu 9.10 and Fedora 12 with the same problem, I can see our network and ping to our servers but I can't browse the internet.
Currently all of our Servers and VPN equipment is setup using public IPs ( For example our web server would be setup with a public ip).
I am a bit new to vlan, so forgive me if I ask noob question.
I am trying to setup a vlan on my netgear switch (GS105E). I want to create 2 separated networks and I want both of them have internet access.
My setup is
Modem
connect to
router WRT54G (with dd-wrt)
connect to
netgear switch
I have configured port 1 and port 5 as vlan1 and port 2 to port 4 as vlan2.
have a DSL modem setup with 192.168.1.1 local IP. Everything working fine. Then have a linksys wireless router that I have connected to the DSL modem. I have enabled DHCP on the wireless router, and have assigned 192.168.107.1 IP address to this router, with 255.255.255.0 as the mask.
Alright, Here's the setup:
Server<eth0>Desktop<wlan0>Router-Internet
What I want to do on my personal 12.04 desktop is allow the server to connect to to the internet and have its own internal ip address on the router so i can use it for minecraft and assaultcube server stuff.
Sharing the internet via the network manager is not suitable because I need to be able to ssh to my ma
So here is what I want to do:
Set an Ubuntu Desktop box as a media center for my TV.
Use the same box as a local network storage.
Need to have VPN access to the same box from other outside computers.
The media center part is simple enough.
I'm trying to setup my printer using Ethernet connection on Ubuntu 10.10
My issue arises from the printer being located (by necessity) too far away for a USB connection. I have an Ethernet switch to handle the crossover and the printer is attached to that.
The printer setup utility finds my printer without any problems and adds it as a dsnsd printer. However I cannot get it to print.
