In an effort to carve out a niche in the burgeoning mobile market, Intel has partnered with Google to optimize future versions of the latter's Android mobile operating system for Intel's Atom line of chips. The announcement was made by Andy Rubin, Android head honcho and Google senior vice president, on Tuesday at the Intel Developer Forum, which runs in San Francisco through Thursday.
ZTE announced a new partnership with Intel today, revealing that its future smartphones will run the upcoming Atom Z2580 processor. The Atom Z2580 debuted at Mobile World Congress and is a dual-core chip that can run up to 2.0GHz with Hyper-Threading support for better multi-tasking. This isn’t the first time that ZTE will use Intel Atom processors.
Intel announced it will roll out a 22-nanometer (nm) version of the Atom processor in 2013 codenamed & Silvermont,& followed by a 14nm & Airmont& Atom in 2014.
Intel officials have confirmed at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco on September 13 that “Clover Trail” - the upcoming version of the company’s low-power Atom processor would not support Linux.
The Clover Field processor, which can be seen in various nondescript laptops around IDF, is targeted at mobile devices, such as low-cost notebooks and tablets.
