I used a live CD to install Ubuntu onto my computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition. I have done this many time before on other computers with no problems.
Now, after installing, whenever I try to run Ubuntu, it goes to a terminal screen showing errors. When I try to boot into Windows, I just get a blinking white line.
Did I somehow wipe windows?
HELP!
The Linux Foundation just announced that they have found a solution for the new BIOS of the upcoming Windows 8 PC. In short, if you are to purchase a Windows 8 PC in the near future, you will be able to install your favorite Linux distro on it.
It has never been a problem to install Linux alongside with Windows on store-bought Windows computers.
I will most likely sound like pretty dumb saying this, but I was trying to install Ubuntu on a USB because my friend keeps telling me to, so I was installing it, and now it seems when I try get back onto Windows 7 it just comes up with a flashing white underline at the top left-hand corner of the screen.
I have 2 computers both with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 in dual boot.
I have 2 wireless adapters.
I can not connect my computers wireless and I think this is because of linux as I described below. But the question is:
Is Ubuntu 10.04 continue support wireless?
I am planning to install a new blank hard drive on my computer but i cannot find the windows iso file i need(windows 7 starter) so can i just install ubuntu instead when i put the new hard drive in? i dont have a cd/dvd rom reader on my laptop. i can only install from usb stick.

Hi guys and Happy New Year!
I haven't been here for a while, but I always found help when I needed it and today I need your counsel again.
I have 2 machines, one running Windows 7 and the other one running Windows 8 and I want to dual boot with Ubuntu on both.
The machine running Windows 7 is a Schenker P702 notebook.
I upgraded my PC from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and wanted to reinstall Ubuntu onto the windows filesystem via wubi. However, I read in many places that Windows 8 causes many new problems with the installation through WUBI, and doesn't work on computers pre-installed with Windows 8 because of a problem in the BiOS or something of that sort. Does it work on computers that were upgraded to Windows 8?
I currently have the latest version of Ubuntu (12.04 I think.) I just bought a new computer with the hopes of a awesome dual boot. Windows 7 was preinstalled with no discs and I wanted to have Ubuntu. When I finished installing Ubuntu, windows started to have problems and had to do self checks.
I am having some trouble installing Ubuntu 12.04 with the Windows installer. The instructions at http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/install-ubuntu-with-windows say (in step 7) that I chose to boot with Ubuntu, but the black screen doesn't come up: it just goes straight to Windows. I've tried to boot it from a USB stick but it won't read it until Windows boots up.
