Hello, I'm a complete beginner if it comes to Ubuntu/ Linux. Yesterday I installed Ubuntu 11.10 as a dual boot with Windows Vista on my Toshiba Satellite A300. I chose option 'install alongside Windows" and automatic partition. The installation process went fine and I was asked to restart the system, which I did.
Hi,
I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my Acer TravelMate 4001LMi laptop (at present running Ubuntu 10.04). Trouble is, it will not even begin to boot from the live cd. It just goes straight to the grub screen. I have tried with various other live cd versions, even the old 10.04 one, same result. I tried F12 for boot options and selected the cd drive, same result.
after trying Ubuntu from Live CD, I've decided to install it:
I partitioned the HD where my Vista installation is by shrinking it on Vista, and I've left the space empty without formatting it; then I've used the live CD to install Ubuntu (12.04), which seemed to complete fine.
At boot no GRUB requester happens and Vista boots regularly, whereas from its disk management tool the empty space I had
I downloaded a copy of Ubuntu 64-bit OS iso images and booted up in the thumb drive. I then created a live USB using Unetbootin. I then booted the live USB up in non EFI mode and installed Ubuntu in a separate partition so that I could have 2 Operating System on my computer.
But I could not get the dual boot option.
I have a laptop on which I had Win 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 installed. The hdd has two partitions (one primary and one extended). Grub wasn't loaing initially so I ran the boot disk repair tool which seemed to sort it out. However, I mistakenly removed python (long story) from the Ubuntu OS and this obviously messed up Ubuntu a lot.
Hi,
I have a dual boot computer (Ubuntu 11.10 or 11.04 / Win7). Everything was working fine until yesterday when it froze while I was under Win7, after that I can't boot the computer anymore and it keeps restarting. The restart occurs right before the when the grub should start (I can't see the grub at all).
I've tried to boot from Ubuntu live CD, but that doesn't also work.
Hi All:
So this is a pretty general question, and I think I know how it works, it's just I want to check to make sure I got it right.
I have this laptop that I use the most, and I decided to run Ubuntu on it too so I can constantly practice using Ubuntu. The thing is, I don't think I want to install Ubuntu (as a dual boot) alongside Windows, so I'm going the Live CD route.
Hi. So I am not a first-time Linux user and I have dual-booted in the past. But today I wanted to install Ubuntu 12.04 alongside Windows 7, but when I restarted my computer with the Ubuntu live disc, it just went straight to Windows. I set the CD Drive to be the first to load on my BIOS already.
