http://unix.stackexchange.com – I have had so many issues on how to download, extract and install this software on SCO. And I'm sure there are loads of people having or had the same issue as I am having. So the question is, how do I install software in SCO? (HowTos)

Ok. So I don't want to install something from the Software Center because that software for a particular package is out of date.

I have to compile a bunch of things. Is there a step by step process to compile a software. Ummm. Ok. I want flightgear 2.4. It won't install on Ubuntu 11.10. And only a lower version of flighgear will install from the software center.

I just started migrating from Windows to Ubuntu 10.04 I have big question regarding installing new softwares. -- I want to install a software "ABC12" which is on the web (Let us assume it is Ubuntu version).

What are the ways to install - I am very confused.

Having issues downloading the newest version of ClipGrab http://clipgrab.de/en, I tried to install it in the terminal, tried finding the software in Ubuntu Software Center, I have even tried to extract the folder for which the software is in at, no luck...

I got few linux applications from a chip(MAGAZINE) cd i wanted to try it(especially vlc and a few others) but didnt know how to install them. I saw a button named install it gives me some info but cant i install things like i used to with windows.

i have just download a file jre-7u7-linux-x64.tar.gz and i am new to ubuntu so i don't know how to install it.

I don't have the greatest network connection so say I install F12 and want to go back and install some stuff I missed first time. It seems that if I use add/remove software that it goes to the repos to download the packages, kind of annoying as I have them on disc.

Is there any way to add software from the install discs after the install?

I download a trial version of Crossover and started to install it using Ubuntu Software Center. As the install was about to finish it stopped and would not complete. I switched of and restated the Software Center but it is still trying to carry on installing.
