http://askubuntu.com – (running 12.10)I have a old computer that really cant do anything on its own(put in usb or cd while booting doesn’t work either) hard drunning 12.10rives are wiped too, so what I taught about doing is get my hard drive enclosure and install it on my HD then taking off HD enclosure and putting it back in the computer. I did this and it would come up with the purple Ubuntu menu(choose Ubuntu) then a screen with a Ubuntu wallpaper comes up and nothing else( just the internetwork offline or something like that) can somebody help me, what am i doing wrong, right now im using my HD w/ enclosure on (HowTos)

Recently, I upgraded the RAM and hard drive on my Early 2008 Macbook to improve the performance. Rather than throw away the old hard drive, I bought an enclosure for it to turn it into an external hard drive, and, since all the data was migrated to my new drive, I decided to install Ubuntu on it for funsies (note: I am a near-total Ubuntu n00b).

I'd like to connect my old harddrive to my laptop via USB enclosure. I connected it but it only produced strange sounds, so I thought that the enclosure is corrupted.

I connected the enclosure to another computer and it's working.

The command lsusb shows:

Genesys Logic, Inc.

I am using this enclosure over USB2 with Ubuntu 11.10: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817173042

After a period of inactivity, the enclosure seems to sleep and Ubuntu isn't able to wake it. I have confirmed that the internal drive is working (no bad blocks, etc).

I had ubuntu 11.04 installed on another complete hard drive thats not even connected with my main hard drive. see I Just unhooked my Windows vista hard drive. and put another drive to run ubuntu.

When I reboot my computer, and enter the boot sequence menu in BIOS, there isn't even an entry for my second hard drive.

Have Ubuntu installed on a 1TB SATA 3 Hard Drive. Also have Windows 7 installed on a separate 1TB SATA 3 Hard Drive. Unplugged Windows Hard Drive before installing Ubuntu as previous versions of Linux always destroyed my Windows installation. What will happen when I plug in the Hard Drive with Windows 7?

Trouble finding a hard drive to install Ubuntu 12.04 on.

As you can see, the 3.74 GB drive is the only one that is showing up. It seems that this is the USB that I am running Ubuntu from, and not an actual drive from the computer. Same thing happens when I try to install Ubuntu. The USB (with no free space) is the only drive that shows up.

I'm hoping this is an easy yes answer, but I wanted to make sure before I start.

I currently have a computer built with two internal hard drives, it's running ubuntu 11.10.
