Hi, I would like to run Ubuntu just from the CD but that doesn't seem to work. I have a HP Computer with Windows 7 currently, I have downloaded and burned Ubuntu on a CD and rebooted. Startup loads the ubuntu GNU GRUB system, but it is different than what it was on my old computer.
I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10, and ran the installer as shown in tutorial for putting it on a USB Drive. I restarted computer, and set boot priority to USB-HDD as first. I restart, and it loads the purple screen with the little white thing at the bottom. I click enter, and it opens up the Ubuntu install. I click Install Ubuntu on a Hard-Disk.
I've got Windows 7 & Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my PC.
When I install Ubuntu, it came with GRUB.
On GRUB, when I select "Ubuntu" on boot menu, I've got a purple screen during 16 seconds, and passed 16 seconds it shows the boot screen and loads the desktop.
Actually, I've got BURG installed on my PC but now, when I try to boot Ubuntu, it shows a black screen with a blinking cursor durin 16 sec

After my laptop passed away a few weeks ago, I made up my mind to build n open source system. So I put together a computer for this purpose. I have set the boot sequence to read the cd first, and downloaded the .iso image for Ubuntu 12.10 (64-bit) because, why not?
The cd loads, I choose a language, and I get to a menu.
Installing from a CD given out by ubuntu at an event.
last line on screen reads,
*Stopping enable remaining boot-time encrypted block devices [OK]
and the cursor is set to load.
I've tried numerous times to install, there is no other OS intalled, ive tried 11.10 12.04 and 12.10 and they have all failed, although 11.10 and 12.10 actually installed but booted to a screen of garbled text whic
Hello all,
I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04.1 64-bit and used unetbootin to try to make a bootable usb.
So, I plug it in, turn my computer on, select to boot from usb, and then I get a black screen with the following white text on it:
Quote:
BusyBox v1.18.5 (Ubuntu 1:1.18.5-1ubuntu5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
(initramfs)
I've been using ubuntu 12.10 (dual boot with Windows 7) for 2 weeks without any problems. Suddenly it hangs (I wasn't doing anything in particular, didn't download or update any drivers), I force restarted it and now it freezes on a blank purple screen.
I have my TV connected to my computer (Ubuntu 9.10) through a s-video plug on my vga card. When I turn on my computer the bios and all that come up and so does grub and the splash screen...but as soon as X loads the monitor goes blank!
I've tried changing the resolution but nothing works. Any help here would be very appreciated.
I have a Ubuntu live usb .. and have set usb as the first device
When I try to boot . all I see is a black screen with a cursor blinking forever. When remove the USB drive . I get a Operating system load error on the black screen and then windows loads.
I tried installing Suse Linux . after I was unable to install Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit. Suse Linux had exactly the same fate.
