I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 by creating free space in Windows 8 and then using that space to create 3 partitions, one for SWAP, one for GRUB (mounting point is /boot) and one for the actual OS. I did this so the Windows 8 boot loader wouldn't be overwritten in case I ever wanted to remove Ubuntu.
My PC
2 Hard discs
300 GB - Slave Hard Disc - Ubuntu 12.10
500 GB - Main Hard Disc - Crashed Windows 7
My situation:
I have Ubuntu 12.10 and I have a lot of important files there.
I want to remove windows 7 and install windows 8
After Installation , Will my ubuntu appear in the Boot Menu again?
Hello!
I have always used Windows, but recently I realised how much Ubuntu is better. I have been using Ubuntu for around two months and I wanted to make it my default OS. I still need Windows for some tasks, so I left it installed.
I came across a nice program called EasyBCD to configure my boot options. I set Ubuntu to default.
I'm a novice in the Linux world. Windows 7 is my primary OS. Trying to run Ubuntu with Windows. Failed so far.
I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 in a second hard disk. I chose second hard disk's MBR to store boot record for Ubuntu. So /dev/sda contains Windows bootloader and /dev/sdb contains Ubuntu bootloader (I think).
The installation went without any problem.
well the story is kinda long, so I'm gonna give the link explaining my first problem...
How to install GRUB on the hard-disk?
Now, I read in some answers, forums, and more...
I have Windows 7 and 8 installed on different HDDs and am using Windows 7 boot loader.
I have made a new partition on the same HDD as Windows 7 for installing Ubuntu.
Is it possible to triple boot with Ubuntu using the Windows 7 boot loader, and how would I go about doing this?
I see during the Ubuntu installation there is an option for selecting your partition, but I am confused to the other op
Original title: How can i solve (un)booting windows 7 on the same partition with grub?
I've been researching for 2/3 days about this problem and I have came up empty.
Basically, partition 1 is Windows 7 and partition 2 is Ubuntu 12.04. I told Ubuntu to install into partition 2 and to install grub on partition 1 and that works fine. But the problem now is that I can't boot to Windows 7.
Hello, I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I can't get back into windows (no such device / file not found when trying to load windows boot loader from grub)
I have an SSD(sdb) and 2 TB HDD(sda).
I want to install 12.04 on one hard disk and Windows 7 on another.
Windows 7 is set already installed on one hard disk, but when I try to boot
to it I get a "grub rescue" prompt and I don't know what to do with that.
I installed 12.04 to the other drive and again I got the grub rescue prompt
when I restarted the system to complete the installation.
