I just want to install a minimal gnome desktop without all the thunderbird/firefox and any other packages that may come with full centos live cd. Is there something like yum groupinstall base-desktop? Ideally, I just want xorg-gnome and then add any other packages manually. No gdm also, I just want to run startx.
Following this question I have have installed a minimal Ubuntu system on my computer.

I did a minimal install of CentOS 6.3 and now want to add a GUI. I tried using yum to install a GUI, but it says it can't resolve mirror.centos.org. I tried to install networking packages but I get directory not found for /etc.

Yesterday I tried to install Fedora 12 on my PS3 with the Fedora12 PPC dvd.
The problem is that the installation process never asked me which package I want install. It just installed the minimal system. After the installation, I just can use my Fedora with command line.
