This simple tutorial will show you how to install the latest stable version of cinnamon desktop. For now the latest cinnamon is version 1.4. The Cinnamon stable ppa provides packages for Ubuntu 12.04 Precise and 11.10 Oneiric (but Oneiric will not get any new update). Install Cinnamon in Ubuntu: Hit Ctrl+Alt+T to launch a terminal window, copy and paste this command to add the PPA: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable Now update (HowTos)

Cinnamon is the default desktop environment in the Linux Mint. Cinnamon 1.6 is coming out soon with new cool and innovative features (see the picture). This simple tutorial is going to show you how to install Cinnamon 1.6 in Ubuntu 12.10 & 12.04.

Install Cinnamon 1.6 from PPA: Before Cinnamon 1.6 going to stable, you can install it from the nightly build ppa.

I would like to upgrade to the latest version of Cinnamon. I'm running Linux Mint 13 in a virtual machine. Everywhere I look, I see the same instructions:

> sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable > sudo apt-get update > sudo apt-get install cinnamon

When I do that, apt-get install reports that "cinnamon is already the newest version".

Cinnamon is a new Desktop, based on Gnome shell. It looks pretty cool and comes by default in Linux Mint 13 (maya) – Cinnamon edition.
