Ubuntu 11.10 was the last release that I could install on my Dell Inspiron 1564, with this graphics card:
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV710/M92 [Mobility Radeon HD 4330/4350/4550]
All releases after 11.10 froze once in 2-3 days, with color stripes on the screen.
This is an old laptop I decided to get running again and I found out that the Radeon HD Mobility 4330 GPU hasn't been supported by AMD's Catalyst driver for a while now.
So instead, I'm trying out the free drivers.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver claims that it should have full acceleration, but that simply doesn't seem to be the case.
since upgrading to Xubuntu 12.10 the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 chip in my Laptop (Acer 4810TG) overheats after about 5-15 minutes (depending on start-up temperature) of light use and shuts down the computer.
This doesn't happen under Windows 7 and has never happened under Linux before the upgrade.
Good morning,I'm running a HP Pavillon dm3-1010eg laptop with ATI/ATI hybrid graphics. For perfomance and power saving reasons I use fglrx instead of radeon. On boot, the integrated (low-perf) GPU is active, and I can't seem to switch to the dedicated one.$ lspci | grep VGA
