I'm running XBMC-live which is an Ubuntu distro with Xbox media center (XBMC) as the default window manager. I'm trying to leave XBMC set up on tty7, as it is, and have a normal window manager on added for tty8, so I can use a web browser and stuff.
Hello all! Recently my dad has bought a fancy lcd tv, so I'm looking for a media center app. I wanted to try Boxee, but I cannot find it neither in repos neither a download link :( Next going XBMC.. What's the difference between xbmc, xbmc live and xbmc standalone? Does xbmc has web browser to watch movies online?

Hi,i have setup a arch based HTPC with XBMC on top of KDE, but there is one thing i were not able to resolve: The XBMC GUI and playing a video on it gets laggy as soon as i DISABLE the kde desktop effects. My system is i3/sandy bridge based with integrated intel graphics, vaapi installed.1. tried different playback settings within XBMC, same results2.
So decided to go with ASRock ION 330 dual core atom at 2.6ghz fully specd out for 1080p playback Very nice package for the price and I threw a SSD in the box for no moving parts (besides the 30mm and 80mm fans ) for airflow.
XBMC, an open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media that is available for multiple platforms, is now at version 12 RC2. XBMC 12 RC 2 has been dubbed Frodo and brings tons of fixes, but the most important change is by far the introduction of Android Support.
I've been running XBMC in Ubuntu 12.04 (64) with Unity for months and never had a problem.
In the last two or three days I've found XBMC's GUI start to become slow and unresponsive and HD playback has become stuttery.
Turning off Vertical Blank Sync within XBMC's settings fixes the GUI lag but not HD playback.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
