If I change a router's subnet mask to one that includes the old one, will the hosts with the old configuration still work?

I need to connect 4 separate offices to the same file server remotely.

This is how I have established network between my PC and my laptop at home (being novice in networking, it took me few days to achieve the feat). And it is working perfectly.

I have a web app that is hosted on Linux cloud servers (Linode, specifically). I am working with a new client that needs to set up a VPN tunnel between their network and one of my main servers. For this reason, they said they needed a private IP and associate subnet mask, and this IP must be bound to eth0:0.

I have installed a small Linux server; the server is in a different subnet as the internet hosts. I added a route to my nat router to create a connection between both subnets.

We have an existing VMware ESX 3.5 cluster (6 hosts, VI 2.5) and need to move the service consoles to a new subnet.

I am trying to get my head around IP Addressing and subnetting, I have to develop an IP Scheme and implement it for a system with 2 offices and 3 routers, router 1 is connected to the internet and has a serial interface connection to router 2 which is a router that has two networks on one for 300 host and one for a total of 5 hosts.

I have a task to essentially change connections to our infrastructure (company's website) without downtime, and I have come up with a plan in my head that I think might work.

My question is for a network with a Linux iptables router gateway. How can it be possible to prevent inter-network traffic of those users. Think this case as a public network, IPs are distributed through linux gw and users are authenticated thru the gateway. We want to protect public users from public users.
