Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite L650-BT2N23
I am new to Ubuntu and was given a Toshiba Satellite L650-BT2N23 that I was hoping to use Ubuntu on. I installed 10.10 but wifi, the integrated intel graphics, and the SD card reader don't seem to work.
First I need to get wifi working; from looking around the forums I tried booting from a livecd, but no wifi card seen.
My Mom bought a laptop last year, it was a low end laptop. It's a Toshiba Satellite C650 I think.
I notice that once the laptop has been idle for awhile, the wireless internet disables, and I have to restart it to get it working again.
The laptop is set up the same as the rest of the computers, and non of the others have any problem with it.
i am searching for a new laptop.
here are 2 laptops which i was recommend that fitted my needs
TOSHIBA Satellite L750-1L8
MSI CX640-457NL
my question is does any one know these laptops and will it work well...GREAT with Ubuntu
thanks in advanced
Yesterday, I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite L650. After the installation, my sound worked correctly. After some fiddling to get the internet to work, I installed all the updates.
After the updates were installed (which included a new kernel), plugging in the headphones didn't mute the speakers anymore. The sound-quality however was still splendid.

I purchased new Toshiba Satellite M505-S4945 laptop and installed 64-bit Jaunty. Everything works great except that the fan cannot be turned on due to broken ACPI tables from Phoenix BIOS. The fan makes a big difference (40C vs 70+C).
I am using toshiba satellite L650 and i had installed bubuntu 12.04. I had also installed all the available updates.
My problem is that the battery status is not shown. Please help me. Thanks in advance.
