Hi guys, so I decided to give Fedora 16 a go from a disc that came with my Linux User magazine and tried to install it, never had any problems in the past but this time had major issues and not sure what to do. I shall try to keep this explanation to a minimum.
I've got a fairly up to date HP Pavilion DM4 laptop with Windows 7 Premium installed.
Hello, I have been a long time user of Windows line of OS, but recently after hearing a lot of good things about Linux, I decided to give it a go for myself. So, this morning I installed Fedora 12 i368 on my computer which already had Win XP and 7 running on it.
The installation was sucessful and I ran the OS, and was very pleased with its fast boot time and everything.
Is there any concensus out there about when Fedora will work out its problems and be ready for prime time?
If someone doesn't understand the question, then consider the following:
1. With the latest Fedora 17, Beefy Miracle, installed, the installation routine creates a a GRUB2 that has an error in the file, as flashed on the screen for a split second at every boot.
2.
hi,
i've been using linux for almost 4 yrs now and there is one problem that has bothered me for all this time. i have searched for solution on the net and in many forums (including this one), but failed. let me explain:
Hello!
I have Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation and Fedora 17, both OS are 64 bit, on dual boot.
Windows and Fedora work OK, with one problem - i can not shotdown computer from Windows.
When i hit Shutdown, computer begin shutdown, but there is no shutdown, only return me on windows login screen.
Restart is OK, shutdown from Fedora also OK.
This problem only appears on dual boot Win8 - Fedo
Hello all:
I'm a noob to Linux, but would consider myself fairly well-versed in Windows. I recently decided to take the plunge and check out Linux, particularly Ubuntu. From what I hear, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is a very stable version of Ubuntu compared to the newest and previous versions. If you don't believe so or have some suggestions, please feel free to share!
Going through LFS 7.3 and about ready to make it bootable but Fedora's grub is giving me issue.
The plan was to share /boot between LFS and Fedora 18 as I have done in the past (been awhile since I ran LFS - LFS 4.something last time). Hell, I've shared /boot between Fedora, CentOS, Ubuntu, and LFS.
I have Fedora 17 running on a machine and I have a spare drive which I would like to install Win 7 on. Windows 7 will blow away my Linux boot so I want to be confident I can sort out the dual boot (or as a minimum, get back to Fedora) afterwards.
I wanted to setup a boot USB (or CD) with a different grub2 menu and confirm that I could boot with this before installing Windows 7.
hey,
