I learned to program in the days of pascal, cobol and RPG and I'd like to learn something new. There seem to be so many. I am thinking HTML or python. The motivation is to do it as a hobby that may stave off brain atrophy but I'd like to work towards being able to write something useful.
I have been programming for 40 years in COBOL, C++, C#, PHP, javascript, html, Visual Studio, etc. and am trying to learn programming for the Android platform. I always thought I could pick up anything but Android has me reeling trying to learn it using Eclipse. Does anyone have any recommendations on IDE's or books to buy to use for developing Android for someone not familiar with Android?
I am new on the forum. I have been working as electronic engineer and I want to shift to web programming. I actually want to start my own web agency.
I currently want to learn the following:

2) Linux
3) Apache
4) LAMP
Could anybody please tell me which books I need to learn the above.
Dear Friends,
I know the basic PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript all self-taught. Now I want to learn Drupal CMS so that I can develop small sites for a very small company of my own and learn something useful in my free time.
I have some books with me on PHP, MySQL etc. I have also purchased a couple of books on Drupal 7 as well.
If you're a beginner who wants to learn Python programming, you've come to the right place. If you're a more advanced coder who wants to push their skills even further, we've got your covered there too.

Yes i can learn to program an app and thus indirectly learn more about droid os that way but i am also talking about things like EFS, the boot sequence, how rooting works, etc.
I've looked at XDA's own published book but to be honest i dont think it does a descent job for beginners.
Thanks for any threads that answer this or whatever.
