Sorry I have to ask this. I switched, at least temporarily, to Gnome. Gnome only loads a failsafe session and the chooser itself drops to Gnome 2. When I do log into Gnome - let me see if I can describe this - I get a new top and bottom bar for every successive login and the usable screen gets respectively smaller.
OK tried logging into openbox gnome session and got an error , your session lasted 10 sec and ~/.xsession-errors file saysBeginning session setupaxj(my user name) being added to access control list16: exec: gnome-session: not found
HI i am literally locked out. using centos 5.8 and all of a sudden i got this
"Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of disk space.
With nouveau driver everything appears corrupt. In the past, when I used the nouveau driver in gnome2 with compiz, the desktop was only slightly slower but functional.I have logged again and I have reproduced the error of black windows for a better log messages (sorry for the log messages in Spanish):[pedro@pimiento ~]$ cat ~/.xsession-errors
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
/etc/gdm/X
Recently, I've done a fresh installation of Arch Linux on my girlfriends laptop. She's using gnome and would like to log in graphically using GDM.However, when I try to login via gdm, I get kicked out of gnome after a couple of (say about 30) seconds back to the login screen. It doesn't seem to matter if I do something.
Unity login return to login screen again after successful login.
Got the following error in ~/.xsession-errors
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup
Setting IM through im-switch for locale=en_US

OS: Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon
$ cat .xsession
xmessage -file /etc/motd
/usr/bin/cinnamon
why do not I get the same look and feel as i do get without the above .xsession file? it also affects a few things
when i open a terminal, i cannot see what i type
log out button looks different and does not logout on press
why does /usr/bin/cinnamon need to run in the foreground?
