I just install ubuntu 12.04 server .. after my first login I saw the ip and it is dynamic I guess. I tried to change it by sudo vi /etc/network/interface but this file is blank .
can anyone help here.
After i installed Ubuntu Server 11.10 x64, i udated the sistem, rebooted, then:
To change my ip to static - i writed: sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces
where i changed line iface eth0 inet dhcp to ..iface eth0 inet static, then
added this lines: address 192.168.1.222
than saved and with this command: sudo /etc/init.d/
# The primary network interface
iface eth0 inet static
And I have issued
sudo service network restart
I tried with
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
I run a local DNS server for development so I can wildcard host names to my virtual machine. This requires a static DNS entry. This kicks out the dynamic DNS. I have added the Google DNS entry for remote DNS 22.214.171.124 as temporary workaround. Also, I don't want to use hosts files they are not as flexible as a remote.
I have a router with dynamic dhcp where I created some fixed adresses for some things I want to use with dyndns.
The problem is, that I have a pc/server which does not support dhcp/dynamic ip, so I have a static IP on this one (instead of only static IP for it on the router + pc in dhcp mode), which is the reason it won't show on my router's interface for portforwarding.
How can I make it show in
