I've seen lots of people saying we should turn hyperthreading on on hyper-v hosts, but I've got a dilemma.
We're going to be running SQL Server 2012 Enterprise on a 2012 hyper-V cluster. This is licenced per core, and in a virtual hyperthreaded environment I think that core is a thread, not a full core.
I already looked at this thread: Hyper-V and Hyper-threading: On or off?, but the only answer is Windows specific....
I am building a VM server (using Proxmox VE if that makes a difference) and was wondering about how hyper threading can affect virtual machines...
Specifically, if I max out the number of virtual machines, would hyper threading help, or hurt performance?
Also, the largest virtua
I run a Hyper-V server running several Hyper-V VMs. I was wondering if there is any way for me to manage
the Hyper-V server itself (just Hyper-V role, not the rest of the server box) and
the Hyper-V VMs (like connecting into them)
via Mac OS?
I'm on Mac OS 10.8 on my main laptop. From what I've been seeing the Hyper-V management tools are all Windows based.
Im having a networking issue in my new test environment - server core 2008, hyper-v.
I have 2 NICs on the hyper-v server, 1 for the host and the other is shared by 3 x VM through the usual virtual network switch.
Host has static IP and the 3 test VM's have static IP's too.
Whatever I try, I can only get external network communication through 2 of the VM's at any time.
I have a VMware ESXi 5.1 whitebox server as a home lab, and recently I have a task to install a cluster of Hyper-V 2008R2 or 2012 for a production environment, so I have to start getting familiar with Hyper-V.
I read couple articles about this issue, but I got confused a little bit..
I want to move pagefile.sys from C: -HDD- to S: -SSD- on Hyper-V Core. I just upgraded RAM from 8GB to 16GB. 8GB was pretty enough. I also want to move guest OSes' pagefiles to SSD as .VHD format. Primary virtual Windows Server SBS has 6GB RAM and it's pagefile is 6GB too. At the end SSD will contain Hyper-V & and guest OSes' pagefiles.
Is it possible to run acpupsd on server core 2012?
I went out and bought some Back-UPS (with USB cable signalling) to run some Hyper-V servers before I realized "that wont work" :-)
Back-UPS are not supported by Business Edition, which does support Server Core.
Back-UPS are supported by personal edition, but Personal doesnt seem to support Server Core (it's personal, right?)
So I went out forag
I'm planning a Hyper-V virtualization system what will include:
2 very nice dual 16 core servers
Dell MD3600f fibre channel SAN
It will be running about 10 virtual machines. The plan is to setup one LUN on the SAN to store all the OS VHD files using Cluster Shared Volumes, and seperate LUNs added to the cluster (but not CSV) for each server that requires a data partition.

Will disabling hyperthreading improve performance on our SQL Server install
How much does hyperthreading affect the performance of SQL Server? I'm not really considering massive OLAP databases here, more a mix of gentle System Center and Sharepoint workloads.
