There's nothing like good, clean Linuxy fun to perk up the dog days of summer. What's a little heat, after all, when you can cool off watching your favorite OS on the silver screen? Yes indeed, Linux Today's Carla Schroder has put together a list of YouTube movies that feature Linux, and they are not to be missed!
Well, the Dog Days of summer seem to be upon us in earnest up here in the Northern Hemisphere, so it's no wonder things have been a little quieter than usual in the Linux blogosphere.
Perhaps it was sheer exhaustion after all the arguments of late, but Linux bloggers have been relatively quiet over the past few days. IBM, oddly enough, seemed to be the topic of most frequent conversation recently, and on several fronts.
There's nothing like weeks of ongoing conversation on the Linux blogs to suggest a topic has struck a chord. Sure enough, that's exactly what's been going on since the middle of last month. The topic? Documentation. Not good documentation, mind you -- the bad kind.
Well, Memorial Day has come and gone in the U.S., and that means summer is upon us once again, if just unofficially. What is summer for, besides sunburns, mosquitoes and sweating? That's right, it's time for tinkering in the great, air-conditioned indoors!
With just a few days left to 2009, the mood on the Linux blogs has been uncharacteristically quiet and contemplative. Mostly gone are the fire and vitriol so often seen in the community's many contentious debates, replaced instead by discussions of a kinder, gentler nature.
Maybe it was the fires raging in California. Or maybe it was a way to blow off some steam before summer came to its unofficial end. Whatever the cause, there's no doubt Linux bloggers were in the mood for some spirited debate in recent days.
Misery loves company, as the saying goes, and nowhere is that more evident than on the Linux blogs. Case in point: Linux Planet's Carla Schroder recently told a woeful tale about her attempt to upgrade the CPU on her ECS motherboard, and it has inspired a vast outpouring of sympathy from geeks far and wide.
It's been a relatively quiet few days on the Linux blogs, and it seems safe to assume that at least part of that lull is due to the mind-numbing cold affecting many of us here in the Northern Hemisphere. The jollidays are at least behind us once more, but now there's the prospect of day after day of this dark, unrelenting chill.
