NASA announced on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, that the Hubble Space Telescope has discovered a fourth moon orbiting around the dwarf planet Pluto.

The planet Venus made an once-in-a-lifetime transit of the Sun last week, but a French astrophotographer got exceptionally lucky because he also photographed the Hubble Space Telescope crossing the Sun at the same time.

At the age of 21 years, the Hubble Space Telescope is celebrating its birthday with a close up image of a pair of interacting galaxies that together are called Arp 273. The smaller galaxy has shown so much affection to the larger one that a rose shape has formed.

Researchers at Southwest Research Institute have used the Hubble Space Telescope to take images of the dwarf planet Pluto. Because of its tilt to the Sun, its atmosphere actually freezes and falls to the ground, forming large molasses-colored patches. Why? Don’t know yet. But, New help is just over the Horizon!

How about a planet that acts like a comet! The Hubble Space Telescope has found planet HD 209458b. NASA says it is a gas giant that is so close to its star—about 4 million miles away—that its atmosphere is escaping into space so fast that the created winds look like a sweeping tail of a comet.  

U.S. astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope have conjectured that a very rare hypervelocity star (a really fast one) was flung out of our Milky Way galaxy by its supermassive black hole over one hundred million years ago.
