Earlier today Huawei announced the Ascend Mate and the Ascend D2. The Ascend D2 sports a 5-inch 1080p IPS display with 443ppi, Huawei’s K3V2 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 13MP camera, 3,000mAh battery, microSD, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and the latest version of the Emotion UI. Huawei teased us with its high-end Ascend D Quad a few days ago at CTIA, but it still has its feet firmly planted on entry-level soil. The Huawei Ascend Y200, also shown at CTIA, is an example of a phone that’s perfect for teenagers, smartphone first-timers, or anyone on a budget.

At 9.9mm of thickness and a price of ¥3,000 (about $480), could this push Huawei over the top?

It seems like we have been waiting for the release of the Huawei Ascend Mate for a really long time, but in reality Huawei is not too late in releasing the device relative to some of our earlier projections of a February release date. Huawei has confirmed today the giant phone will be available in the Chinese market on March 21 for 3,120 yuan ($500 USD).
