I have 12.10 installed on a Thinkpad x230. It works great except for sound. I do have sound in the login page, but after I log in and get to the desktop, everything is perfectly silent.
I went through all the guides, nothing is muted, alsamixer looks ok in the console etc, but no sound plays and no errors are reported that I can see. I tried restarting pulseaudio and alsa but no change.
So I know that other people have had issues with audio on Envy Series Notebooks. However there's very little out there in terms of the HP Envy 17-3200 (4 speakers and a woofer). In light of this, I've had considerable trouble getting sound to work right.

I am not completely newbie, but then I am not a programmer. So I still consider myself a learner. In any case, I upgraded to FC 16 using preupgrade, and it even tested itself to see if the upgrade was OK and thus upgraded. Afterwards, I had no audio.
It did however, see my Realtek on board HD ATI SB (ALC883) card in every way. Kinfo, ALSA, and Pulseaudio saw it and said everything was good.
Can someone explain the relationship between the different sound components and if they all need to be installed in order to get sound?
For example, I have one called "Playback: ... (PulseAudio Mixer)" and another called "Intel ICH5 Alsa Mixer" which both seem to affect my sound. Can I uninstall one of them and still have working audio?
Hey there. This is my first try on Crunchbang distro, I'm still getting used to it, but I can say it's very good. :)I'm trying the CrunchEee lite version, and I don't know how to get the sound working.
I have tried killing pulseaudio. I have tried editing alsa-base.conf. I have tried alsamixer. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling alsa-base and pulseaudio. I have tried everything I could find, but still no sound.
My computer is an HP Pavilion dv6 6190us with switchable AMD and Intel graphics. The sound stopped working suddenly after an update.

I have no sound devices. Makes sense that I have no audio, no wonder KDE complains at every login that the devices aren't working.
Hi, Ive tried IRC, google, searching the fourms, etc. And nothing seams to be working for me. Im getting pretty frustrated so this is my last resort before I pass out on my keyboard :|.
