I have a Compaq(HP) laptop. I connect it directly to the main power source without the battery, since my battery does not hold charge. I notice that on switching on the power button, the laptop starts booting with the power led on. Then it stops, on its own restarts. This time with the power led off but the boot sequence completes.
While switched on, the power led is still off.
I have a really annoying problem with battery indicator on my ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
If the laptop is connected to its power supply, the indicator works fine and shows the progress of charging and also discharging after I disconnect the power supply. However, if I then restart the laptop on battery, there is no battery indicator anymore (which is really annoying on a laptop...).
What makes the voltage going only one way in a laptop? In other words what makes the voltage not going from the battery back to the power supply?
Reason why I ask is a few days ago I plugged in my laptop power supply in my laptop and it wasn't even plugged in into and AC wall outlet and I saw some arching. The DC in connector seems fine no damage but I was wondering why it happened.
Sometimes when I pick up my laptop, it decides to stop the power supply running. It will just suddenly go black and not save my documents. When it happens, it makes a high pitch power down noise then just goes to black, where I then need to restart it. What could be the problem? Could my battery be loose?
Also, my laptop says, "consider changing your battery". Is it broken? Or faulty?
I was browsing the web on my computer and it just shut off. I think the led power light on the front of the case was still on afterwards. Since then I can't get it to turn on at all. The lights on my motherboard light up, but whenever I hit the power button it won't turn on. All that happens is my power supply makes a single clicking noise.
