HP and Hynix team up on ReRAM

http://www.linuxfordevices.com – HP and Hynix Semiconductor announced they've entered into a joint development agreement on a memristor technology called ReRAM claimed to be up to 100 times faster than flash memory while using one 10th the energy. ReRAM devices could start replacing random access memory (RAM) and flash within three years, and may eventually replace CPUs, too, say the companies.... (Embedded)

Samsung Electronics may purchase mobile memory chips from South Korean rival SK Hynix for devices including the Galaxy S, said J.K. Shin, head of Samsung’s mobile business.

Panasonic, Samsung, Sandisk, Sony, and Toshiba announced they'll collaborate on a content-protection scheme targeting SD cards and other flash memory devices. The & Next Generation Secure Memory Initiative& will involve PKI (public key infrastructure) and will be robust enough to protect HD video content, according to the companies....

IBM plans to invest $1 billion in research  to design, create and integrate Flash into its  servers, storage systems and middleware, a reflection of the changing requirements needed for companies to manage massive amounts of data. As part of the news, IBM also announced a new line of Flash appliances. These storage appliances are based on technology acquired from Texas Memory Systems.

Linus Torvalds announced the release of Linux 2.6.34, which is notable for adding two filesystems: Ceph for distributed and cloud-based applications, and LogFS, which is optimized for flash-memory based devices. Other new features include a faster KVM virtualization driver based on Vhost.net technology, says LinuxPlanet.com....

SanDisk and its manufacturing partner Toshiba announced a 19-nanometer (nm) process technology for fabricating flash memory chips. The companies will begin sampling a 64 gigabit (Gb), 2-bits-per-cell (X2) monolithic flash chip later this quarter, with volume production following later this year -- enabling smartphones and tablets with 128GB flash disks by early 2012....

Samsung has started mass producing 128GB flash memory chips that feature the highest density in the industry, and are made with a 10nm process. Such high-capacity flash memory chips already exist in the marketplace, and the South Korean company is looking to not only bring smaller flash memory chips to mobile devices, but also replace traditional hard drives.

I installed Ununtu 9.04 64 on this laptop. And I tried everything, but I cannot get sound to work. Ant help is appreciated.
