I tried following instructions provided for Ubuntu 12 to use lightdm Pantheon Greeter here but failed to use given repository. How can i install that greeter on my debian.

I have installed lightdm-gtk-greeter. This worked fine for a while. When I tried to shift to unity-greeter (which I could not) and so reverting back to gtk-greeter it presents the login screen, where I enter password and enter: the screen is blank for 2-3 seconds and it loads the same login page.
When I login to ubuntu, I get a menu in the top right corner to load an Ubuntu environment.
This means that the lightdm greeter is corrupt. I tried to locate the lightdm.conf but I can't find it and read some where it's deprecated.
Is there any way I can use LightDM themed with the Unity greeter with a systemd-based init? The lightdm-unity-greeter package available in the AUR depends upon lightdm-ubuntu, which conflicts with lightdm. lightdm provides a systemd unit, but lightdm-ubuntu does not. Is there another way to have lightdm-ubuntu start on boot even though it doesn't have systemd support?P.S.
I'm running Gnome desktop in 12.04 and installed the lightdm-kde-greeter. But I'm not sure how to change the background. Google has been no help, as all the suggestions say to go to the System Settings -> Login Screen (LightDM), but this is not present on my system. ALso, there seems to be no lightdm-kde-greeter.conf.
