Yesterday I installed ubuntu 12.04.1.
Note : its a dual boot system along windows 7
At first grub was appearing and i was able to start ubuntu but then i had to switch to windows but windows was not booting when i select windows 7 it jumps back to grub window. So i fix the Windows Boot Loader using repair from windows media and wolla windows started to boot but Ubuntu Grub gone.
I dual-booted a friend's computer with Win7/Ubuntu 12.04 LTS recently. The machine came with Win7 pre-installed (read: the golden rule of installing Windows first was upheld). Regardless, after installing Ubuntu, the bootloader gave no option to boot into Ubuntu naturally; it abutomatically booted into Win7.
I'm a novice in the Linux world. Windows 7 is my primary OS. Trying to run Ubuntu with Windows. Failed so far.
I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 in a second hard disk. I chose second hard disk's MBR to store boot record for Ubuntu. So /dev/sda contains Windows bootloader and /dev/sdb contains Ubuntu bootloader (I think).
The installation went without any problem.
I'm very sorry if this has been asked before, but I cannot find a relevant post that could help me.
Here's the problem:
Windows 7 seems to be able to boot from it's own HDD and bootloader, but then when trying to run it through grub or burg it goes back to post from the windows logo.
It also gets detected as Windows 8, and I haven't installed that ever.
I dont have windows 7 in my grub bootloader..and i selected UBUNTU as my default OS.Now i cant boot Windows 7.:mad:
Pls tell me how to add windows 7 in grub menu.
I also tried to changing the 40_custom file but it is read only so i cant change.
Help I am using UBUNTU 12.04 LTS
I have a Sony VAIO with Windows 8 preinstalled, and I installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a new partition. When the PC boots Grub is display, and I can choose between Windows 8 (didn't worked at the beginning, had to change Grub settings) and Ubuntu.
I did this very clever decision to set windows 7 bootloader to ubuntu. and now i cannot boot back to windows
if i try to boot via grub it flashes the windows bootloader for half a second and goes back to Grub, also the safemode of windows ceased to function, so i cannot go back and change the settings. i am totally screwed here and would not want to install the OS (both of them) again....
Basically, I installed Ubuntu on a different partition, from my windows.
Then, when I turned on my computer, it had the Ubuntu boot manager. I installed easyBCD.
Given a dual partition of Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 - both 64 bit operating systems and a working version of GRUB: I need to be reminded of what will happen upon reinstallation of Windows 7 on the Windows partition in terms of GRUB.
Will GRUB be wiped?
I am concerned about this.
