Hi,
So, I'm upgrading to kernel version 2.6.31-gentoo-r6 from 2.6.30-gentoo-r5.
In menuconfig for the old kernel, I saved an Alternate Configuration File.
Can I use that configuration file for the new kernel, or do I need to start from scratch every time? I know that I can use it, but should I use it?
Thanks.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10, which came with kernel version 3.0.0-14. I downloaded and built a kernel from the 3.1.0 branch. After installing the new kernel, I see that my /boot/initrd.img-3.1.0 file is HUGE. It's 114MB, while my /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-14-generic is about 13MB. I want to get rid of the bloat, which is clearly unnecessary.
How to compile and install a new kernel in ubuntu 11
i downloaded a stable new linux kernel from kernel.org(3.5.2)
please provide me the steps or somw guidance of how to do it?
I'm trying to rebuild an arm kernel rpm and add a patch for a new kernel module following the instructions on the wiki. When I get to "rpmbuild -bp --target=armv7hl kernel.spec" rpmbuild starts compaining that my kernel module is not set in .newoptions for archs that I don't want like armv5tel-kirkwood, etc.
We have a corega cg-wlusb2go wireless key.
From the manpage i understand that "rum(4)" supports it.
However, i need to compile it in the kernel and for that i need to put lines into the kernel config file.... Can somebody give me a hint as to where to start?
After months writing code and seeing multiple failures I have given up writing a kernel and decided to use the linux kernel. My only problem is that I'm not sure how.
I have looked up how to compile the kernel but it just isnt working. I downloaded 3.2.7 from kernel.org and I have an Ubuntu computer. What am I supposed to do to get the kernel from files to a bootable ISO image?
Former Gentoo user here. I'm trying to optimize the system by recompiling kernel specifically for my processor and disabling code I won't be using (to reduce memory consumption, improve speed etc.).
I wonder if anybody has lucky experiences with kernel-seeds on top of Ubuntu.
Hi
I'm fighting for a few days to compile the kernel in Ubuntu 12.04 and appending grsecurity patch. I tried a few instructions from the net.
I tried to download a new kernel from kernel.org and sources.
Hi,
After compiling custom kernel for a P3 machine with 512 MB ram I lost ability to mount CIFS shares due to socket error.
Here's my config, does anybody know what I left out which is significant for CIFS to function?
Code:
#
# Automatically generated make config: don't edit
# Linux kernel version: 2.6.32.11+drm33.2-opt-p3i815-compact
