How To Upgrade To Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid Lynx

http://www.liberiangeek.net – If you just can’t wait to for Lucid Lynx to be released in April before upgrading, you can now upgrade your current Ubuntu System to Lucid Lynx with ease, but it’s highly recommended that you don’t do it on a production system or computer you’re currently using as your workstation.   Since Lucid Lynx is still in a alpha  state, and isn’t publish into Ubuntu’s default repository for general download, you’ll have to edit the source.list file and add the beta repository.   The first thing you need to do is update and upgrade your current system by running the commands below.   1) Open Ubuntu Terminal by going to Applications –> Accessories –> Terminal     2) Then execute the following commands below sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Once the step above is complete restart your computer.   3) Next to go System –> Application –> Update Manager       4) Next click on Settings       5) Then select ‘Other Software tab and then click the Add button at the bottom.       6) Type in the following line in the box then click close.   deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu lucid multiverse   7) Go back to the Terminal and execute the following commands below.   sudo apt-get install update-manager-core   sudo apt-get do-release-upgrade -d   Type Y to continue with the upgrade. 22 packages are going to be removed. 144 new packages are going to be installed. 1034 packages are going to be upgraded. You have to download a total of 587M. This download will take about 24 minutes with your connection. Fetching and installing the upgrade can take several hours. Once the download has finished, the process cannot be cancelled. Continue [yN] Details [d] Y   Sit back and relax, your system is being updated to Lucid Lynx.
