I've packaged an interactive postinstall script in my package, but now when I get a popup about packages ready to upgrade, I receive an error due to the postinstall question being asked. So I'd like to update the postinst script to not do anything if it's run during an upgrade. How can that be done?
I am trying to pass arguments to a bash script and then to a php script, I have literally looked at 30+ links, and tried over a dozen examples, and I for whatever reason have not been able to get the following to work, I am seriously frustrated, any help is so very much appreciated.

Use a unique name for your script
Do not name your script test, for example! Why? test is already a UNIX(r)-command, and most likely built into your shell (it's a built-in in Bash) - so you won't be able to run a script with the name test in a normal way.
