How to speed up Gnome Shell with Nvidia

http://askubuntu.com – Are there any tricks for speeding up Gnome Shell, such as by disabling any extra "flashy" features? I tried installing the Disable Window Animations Extension, but I haven't noticed any difference. I've been using Gnome Shell under Ubuntu 11.10 for a few weeks now, and I generally like the new interface (and much prefer it over Unity). However, one thing that's driving me crazy is is Gnome Shell's horrible slowness and constant freezing. For example, if I press Ctrl+Alt+D to show my desktop, Gnome Shell will immediately minimize all apps correctly, but afterwards it will completely freeze fo (HowTos)
