How should I configure this server arrangement?

http://serverfault.com – I have two Raspberry Pi's, and an old Linux box. Out of these three I want to create a reliable web server and a reliable MySQL server - however I need one of the Raspberry Pi's to be the main web server. After having done some research, I have come up with a few scenarios that would provide both of those: Primary Raspberry Pi hosting web, Second Raspberry Pi hosting MySQL, Linux box backing up both every 15 minutes. Primary Raspberry Pi hosting web, Secondary Raspberry Pi hosting backup web, Linux box load balancing (some how?) and also hosting MySQL, then periodically backing MySQL up to (HowTos)

So I have followed the following tutorial:-

For apache/PHP/mysql and it's running fine.

However I need some more setup help.

How can I set up virtualhosts each with there own FTP access and vanity nameservers pointing to the pi IP address?

The small red box to the left of TV is the Raspberry PI. Successfully installed and running Raspbian Wheezy.

I am hosting a mysql server in a debian 6.0.4 server hosted in linode, the new data is frequently written into the mysql server using R, about 30-40 "write" per minute, about 7 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Recently I found that the mysql server seem to down frequently, always give me error that mysql server cannot be connected through socket.
