Howdy everyone, Jimmy B here trying to sell my computer. Basically I have two computers at home right now. A nice machine with Windows 7, good for gaming, tinkering, Linux, programming and that sort of stuff. My other computer is just a normal Dell desktop which I plan to use as my main machine now [...]
Hello,
I have a long story I'd like to tell which may offer some clues as to why I'm having these problems.
I recently bought a new computer from System76. They come pre-installed with Ubuntu. I've been running Ubuntu for 3 years now and don't have any need for Windows.
When the computer arrived Ubuntu started up no problem.
Me and my room mate would like to setup a server to hold large amounts of media. He uses Windows 7 and I prefer ubuntu. The server can be either but obviously I favor ubuntu.
My question is ....
What steps do I need to take to setup an ubuntu server that will be recognizable to him?
Also would it be easier with windows?
Here's my problem in a nutshell:
I have been given an old computer (Windows 2000 for now) and I need to install an Ubuntu OS (I'm thinking about Ubuntu Server), Moodle and perhaps a website.
After this, the responsible for the network will connect my computer to it.
Here are my questions:
1) What is the best OS that I should use?
Okay, so I'm relatively new to Ubuntu. I've searched and found solutions related to my problem but none that have so far directly worked.
After figuring out how to free up space to make a partition on my computer in order to install Ubuntu 11.10 side-by-side with Windows and installing it, and rebooting my computer, I found myself staring at the Ubuntu login.
I have a Dell Dimension 4600 desktop that I no longer use and I decided to turn it into a server. It is running Windows XP. Now, I had a flash drive that has Ubuntu 11.0 on it where I used it to install Ubuntu on another computer.
OS1: Ubuntu Server 12.04 (server)
OS2: Windows 7 (network computer)
I'm having a weird problem, and I'm not sure what to do about it. When I reboot the server, then try to SSH into it from another machine on the same network, I get a "connection refused" error.
I want to remove Ubuntu 12.04 and want to install Windows XP on my laptop; the problem is that whenever I try to install my Windows XP from my CD the setup says:
Setup did not find any hard disks drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct.
Dear popular community of Ubuntu,
Hello. I plan on installing several Linux distributions on my computer that has Windows 7. But I don't plan on keeping all Linux distros forever. I plan on keeping just one Linux distro (and keep the Windows 7 OS).
