I just installed Lubuntu as a user. It didn't ask me
anything during the install about root, or what root
password I would like. So now, when I need root to
change /etc/fstab or /etc/rc.local, I can't. When I
try to set up root admin in Users Accounts, it says
there already is a root. Nobody said nothing to ME
about setting up a root account.
I am trying to install lubuntu 12.1 PPC using the alt cd on an ibook g4. I've been having a few problems. First, when lubuntu boots it only boots to a black screen, my cursor is visible and brightness functions work but that's it, no login screen ever comes up. I tried logging in after pressing ctrl+alt+f1 but my login didn't work.
When I install Ubuntu it never shows up an option to set a password, yet there is a password when trying to logg in to the admin account and trying to install packages. I can't change the password in Root because when i try to it says "Authentication manipulation token error". When i try to fix the shadow password thing in root it says access denied.
Hi, I am new to using Linux. I recently installed Lubuntu 12.04 on my laptop.
There is a batter monitor applet that can be added to the panel.
I'm having a bizarre problem after installing from a liveCD to my laptop.

I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04. I installed with one user account, then added a second user account using the GUI dialog box method, making myself an Administrator type.
I now use the second user account. When using update manager and it needs to add or remove packages, it asks me for the "password for root" rather than my own password.
I have installed Lubuntu 12.10 on an HP Mini netbook, which required the bcwm source package for wifi to work.
Last night I installed Lubuntu 11.10 on my desktop PC, before that I only had Ubuntu 11.10, but now I have a "Dual-Boot" PC, with GRUB. The problem, I want to uninstall Lubuntu because it doesn't liked to me :(
I tried to do that on Lubuntu's Live-CD GParted, but it has partitions that I don't know.
