When I come to the ubuntu 12.04 lightdm login screen, I get several options for logging into desktop environments.
There is Unity and gnome and gnome-classic etc...
When I select unity, it logs me into Unity and
When I select gnome, it logs me into UNITY O_o
I also notice that even after selecting the gnome3 session , the icon on the login box is the same as the unity icon.
after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 i cant login to the gnome desktop - only to unity of gnome without the graphical enhancement.
i can see the Gnome in the login screen option but when i press it nothing happens.
A while back I decided to try the Gnome Shell desktop environment as I've always been a fan of the foundation and the desktop environment. I decided that I'd become used to Unity and that I wouldn't really log into a GNOME session often, so I uninstalled it via the command line... which, frankly, was stupid.
Hi,
I installed gnome-shell in 12.10 to see if I liked it better than unity, and I didn't, so I purged it. This didn't deal with 'gnome classic' and 'gnome classic (no effects)', however, which remain on my login window.
How do I remove them without also removing delicate parts of my system?
Thanks.
Hi all!
I'd like to remove unity, gnome and all that, and just keep xfce4 (already installed).
Even better, it'd be wonderful to have my computer boot into a login shell and let me run startx if and when I want a graphical session.
Now I tried with some things along the lines of "apt-get remove unity ubuntu-desktop gnome-session" but it turns out it's too naive a method.
Is there anyway to (pre)load gnome-shell before getting user account login dialog from gdm?
The problem is after login from gdm I have to wait for gnome-shell to be ready with non-responsive , no status feedback desktop background.
I found that waiting for gdm to show-up during boot process is acceptable but I was expected to get a ready-to-use gnome-shell instantly after entering password to th
Ubuntu 12.04 comes with Unity, by default, based on Gnome 3.*, new features in Unity interface such as HUD seems to be cool but many people still doesn’t like Unity. Gnome Shell Interface is another great option for them. Since, both the interfaces are built on the top of Gnome 3.* – they have no compatibility problem at all.
After I installed GNOME Shell, the option in LightDM for remote access ("remote login") disappeared. What should I do to restore the option?
Original untranslated version:
Al instalar GNOME Shell desaparece la opción de acceso remoto (inicio de sesión remoto) en LightDM. ¿Qué debo hacer para restaurar la opción? Saludos.
