I recently noticed at a clients that their Dell laptops appear to have SMART disabled in bios by default. I noticed this while swapping out a disk on a desktop which had failed without any warning.. wonder why we didn't get anything. :-)
Anyone know how to script bios changes on Dell machines?

I am looking into getting a Dell Inspiron. My machines have always been linux and I've never had a need for windows until recently.
What I'd like to do is buy one for the windows OS disc so that I could wipe the drive and put ubuntu on it and virtualize windows. In order to do that, I'll need the windows OS disc. Does it come with Dell laptops?

I am considering buying one of the laptops Dell is offering for sale with Ubuntu pre installed.
I currently use Ubuntu on a Macbook Pro that belongs to my work, which will have to go back to my work soon as I am changing jobs!
I have Slackware 13.1 installed on 2 laptops and a desktop. The desktop is an older Dell XPS 410 with 4 gigs of ram and a 2.8gHz dual core pentium D, One laptop is a Sony Vaio with a dual core processor and 2 gigs of ram, and the other is a Dell Studio 15 with 3 gigs of ram (can't recall the processor).
