Hi all, I've just got a new laptop running windows vista 64 bit but going to be removing that & installing fedora 11 on it & seeing as Ubuntu doesn't come with a pae kernel as standard yet, fedora is the way to go :). the Hard drive is 2x500 gigs running in raid 0 mode
here's how I would like to install fedora
I just formatted an older hard drive of mine and I have a few questions about putting a linux distro on it. I want to make a dual boot with XP and Zorin Os I think, but with XP on one drive and Zorin on the other. I'm currently downloading the .iso.
Would I need to partition it, if I plan to use the entire drive for linux, or is that even necessary?

I am installing the above later this week with the intent of it being my OS drive.
Potential Partition Scheme ->
Boot 100 M
Swap 8 Gig
/ -> Balance
/home --> Separate Drive
Does this make sense for a SSD drive.
I'm not sure how to explain this in the subject better, so the "question" may not be right. But here goes. I have three hard drives. Drive A is a 320GB drive, Drive B is a 80 GB Drive, and Drive C is a 1TB Drive.
Hello all, looks like ran into my first problem that I couldn't solve myself.
I was installing a copy of Windows Xp on a second drive on my computer and accidentally deleted the partition on my second hard drive that contained my copy of Fedora 14 ( I accidentally selected the second drive while selecting a partition to install Windows and deleted the partition - but I didn't format it or anything ). The computer will not boot from my Linux drive now.
I am trying to setup an older PC (Yes it can boot to USB) with Ubuntu and have only the /boot partition on a USB Thumb drive. Not running the operation system from the USB but to have the OS installed on the internal HDD and only the /boot on the USB Thumb drive, I do not want to run the operating system from the USB Thumb drive.
What i would like to do is.
I downloaded the latest ubuntu version, and used the provided instructions to make a live USB drive from it.
Hi all
Trying to install Ubuntu Studio 11.04 32 bit as a dual boot alongside dowsXP on an Advent 4213 netbook from a usb stick (it has no optical drive). I resized the main partition on the netbook with partition wizard, leaving an unallocated partition on the C drive of 60Gb, intended for the ubuntu OS - this seemed to go well enough with everything intact.
