How to mount a partition as /home and remove old /home directory

i went through a lot of reading before i ventured into installation of arch. i installed from the august release and have successfully upgraded to current september 7 release.mistakes i commited....i wanted to install home on a seperate partition and i had mounted so in usb as instructed.

On my harddisk I have two different linux systems which both have a own home partition. For about two weeks I used symbolic links from my fedora 18 home partition to my salix home partition. A few days it worked without issues. Folders I symlinked were Documents, Video, Music and .liferea_1.8 folder. But now I cannot mount my Salix home parititon properly.

Having put /home on a separate partition when installing and then added another version of Ubuntu to a third partition and used the /home in common, I see the error of my ways.

Im using suse 11.1 with /home on a separate partition. To move my /home to a larger partition it looked easy to use Yast partitioner. I copied all /home/ files first to the new partition and backed-up fstab.

with Yast I unmounted /dev/sdb6 = /home and mounted it to /local then unmounted /dev/sda4 = mynewhomepartition and mounted it to /home

I have "successfully" moved my encrypted home to a separate partition using the instructions here: How can i move an encrypted home directory to another partition?

However, some files are not being copied over. Most notably, I have a directory in my old home that contains the themes I use.

From what I have read so far, if you have Ubuntu installed on SDA1 and then mount partitions from SDB, SCD, etc. they are treated as though they are just part of / (root) and you don't actually switch from one disk to another when saving or moving files.
