Baseball may be America's favorite sport, but here in the Linux blogosphere, grumbling about Microsoft is perhaps the most popular passtime.

The times, they are a-changin', as the old song goes, and nowhere is that more evident today than in perceptions of our old friend Microsoft. In fact, after years of being viewed by many as an unconquerable leader in the world of desktop software, Microsoft's armor is apparently beginning to chip.

The Kinect is arguably Microsoft’s most important innovation of the past decade, and has done more for changing the nature of computer interaction than pretty much any other recently created input devices.

In a move that has left me speechless, Microsoft has signed a deal with HTC that will see the handset maker pay the Redmond giant a royalty in order to be able to be able to run the Android platform on its handsets.

The more that is uncovered regarding Microsoft Windows Phone 7 strategy, the more I become convinced that the Redmond giant has learned little from Apple's success with the iPhone.
