I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS after not using any Linux distro for several years. My Canon MP280 worked perfectly as far as printing goes and I was even able to set it up on a Samba share and print from a Windows 7 machine.
However when I open Simple Scan it does not detect a scanner.
I have a HP deskjet 3050 which is a printer/scanner. The printer was added to my network using a WPS pin through my router. The printer works fine, it is detected on my network and prints in Ubuntu12.04. However when I try to scan with Simple Scan (for example) I get a message "No scanner detected".
hello,
Is there anything I should do to get the scanner working in F18 ?
the canon scanner shows up in dmesg and I have installed xsane and xsane-gimp but in Gimp /file/create/xsane device dialog it only opens the webcam, where do I get hold of the scanner ?
cheers
I have a canon pixma mg5300 series printer/scanner. I am able to print with it, after I successfully added the driver (if I remember correctly, I had to install it from the constructor, though I'm not sure, it was quite some time ago). However, I don't know how to use the scanner. I tried typing 'scan' in the dash, and a application named 'simple scan' appeared.
I have had my Canon MP280 scanner working but since various updates it is no longer recognised despite following all the "answers" on this site and others. It does not work at all with simple scan, scangearmp or gimp. Nothing recognises it.
The printer part still works.
Hello,
Ever since I switched to Ubuntu 12.04 the scanner on my Epson Stylus NX230 won't work. At the same time I started running lUbutntu because the regular version is too fancy for my crappy old computer. The scanner used to work when I had whatever version I had before, but now when I try to scan an image using either Scanner Utility or Simple Scan it says no scanner is connected.
Hello,
I have a multifunction printer PIXMA MG2250 from which I successfully processed printer tasks, thanks to this forum, but still the scan is not recognized, not even detected by scangearmp even if I have installed some mp drivers of the MGseries range; Would somebody have an idea to fix this problem?
thanks in advance

I have SANE and SANE-scanner installed in my Ubuntu 12.04 box. I have an Epson V500 flatbed scanner, tied by USB to my machine. On my network I also have an HP All-in-One that has scanner functionality. Both are detected by the computer as scanners. I want to always use the Epson scanner but can't find a way to tell SANE-scanner to use the (second listed) Epson scanner.
I had no trouble getting the Canon MG5320 to print using CUPS, installation went smoothly. The scanner is another matter. I've cable connected the printer/scanner using a USB. I have both scangear and the xsane add-on for GIMP installed. I can initiate GIMP from root or with a normal user account and perform File-Create xsane: Device dialog...
