Hello. I have the following problem. While I can read any file on gedit I can save it(save buttons are disabled)! I get the following message:
Quote:
Changes to document "Untitled Document 1" will be permanently lost.
Saving has been disabled by the system administrator.
I have reinstalled gedit and deleted all config files.
Hope this is in the right place and I apologize in advance if it is not.
Many people would like not to have to open a terminal or have more granular control over permitions that can be achieved using PAM permissions(read the man pages for PAM for more information) and the consolehelper.
When sharing a mov file from Ubuntu One (See sample URL http://ubuntuone.com/2tmgfbyPMAURzYDraoMo7e ), then opening the file from your web browser such as Firefox, rather than giving you the save as file option it will start streaming the movie file instead.
Well, the 'standard' Ubuntu text editor gEdit has a bug that prevents it from opening some (many?) files and, IMHO, gEdit has gotten too complex for its own good anyway. However, there is a simple terminal-based editor, Nano, that is part of the Ubuntu distribution that seems to be a good alternative for simple file viewing and editing.
In bash I often use for-loops such as the following
for file in *.type; do
sommecommand "$file";
done;
to perform an operation for all files matching *.type. If no file with this ending is found in the working directories the asterisk is not expanded and usually I will get an error message saying that somecommand didn't find the file.
Hey!
I am trying to modify /etc/php.ini
I run chown jon /etc/php.ini
Once the permissions are changed, I open the file with gedit, and make the changes I want.
When I go to save my changes, it gives me this error...
gedit could not back up the old copy of the file before saving the new one.
I save links as files, rather the using bookmarks. I just drag the URL field from Firefox onto my desktop/folder.
Recently these stopped opening in Firefox, and started "opening" in Gedit. Even in Gedit, the file errors.
Is there any way or plug-in that supports opening pdf file directly in gedit from file browser?
gedit seems open everything inside it as a source file rather than recognize the software to open the file.
So What I mean is that instead of opening the file by going to the folder, I can read the file by double clicking it in the file browser.
Is there an editor which has the option to "split the screen" into two or more parts, accessing more than one file (possibly with a file tree) without opening more editor windows at once, and how would one do this (what are the commands).
I don't know if I made myself clear, but "split screen" is the only way to describe what I want to achieve.
