http://askubuntu.com – i tried to install a ubuntu beside win 8 by downloading it from ubuntu website and downloaded wubi application to set it up from windows, after install it requires restart to continue setup then, it hangs up on restarting window for more than 15 mins so i tried to force it to shutdown by holding the power key. after turn it on, laptop (hp ENVY m6-1105dx) gives me a error message that there are something missed and can't continue install of ubuntu then it gives two option (enter and ESC ) enter to choose OS want to run i tried ubuntu but didn't work. so what should i do install ubuntu beside wi (HowTos)

I want to install Ubuntu alongside windows. So I downloaded the .iso file, made a bootable USB drive and started the installation.

But when I have to choose how I want to install it, it shows:

Install Ubuntu INSIDE Windows 7 Replace Windows 7 with Ubuntu and Something else

And when I choose to install it inside Windows and click the button continue, my PC just restarts and opens Windows.

I tried installing Ubuntu in two different ways:

First, I tried the Windows Installer, and it goes well until I reboot the system and, when booting on Ubuntu, I get the error:

No root file system defined.

Second, I uninstalled wubi by going to to Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs -> Ubuntu. Then, I booted the laptop from the live CD and selected install.

After downloading Ubuntu 12.10 yesterday and using the Wubi option to install through windows 7 I hit a road block. I partitioned the C: drive to install Linux and did the primary install no wories. But, after I get the prompt to reboot, which I do, I choose Ubuntu and the Installation starts just fine.

I am using Win 7 Ultimate. I have the current version of Virtualbox. I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 from the Ubuntu website and the install as disc image.

Ubuntu probably goes thru about 75% of the install and then I get an error message saying that there is a hardware issue and cannot continue.

Iam trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop edition. I downloaded it from Ubuntu releases page using torrent file( Ubuntu Live DVD). When I start install with the option Try ubuntu choosen, it hangs at purple screen. Iam able to switch by pressing Alt+Ctrl+F1. Instead if I choose, Install ubuntu option, it hangs with a blank screen which just shows a mouse cursor.

I have a UEFI PC with the following specs:

AMD Trinity A10 Quad Core 3.4 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 1.5 TB HDD.

My problem is that when I boot from the Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit install disc, I get to the EFI bootloader with the option to Install Ubuntu. I scroll over "Install Ubuntu" and press Enter. From here, the screen just goes black and the installation hangs there.
