Linux DIstro was Cent Os 5.3. Scene : Windows clients were able access their shares from samba-server and all.To connect server they used "run " But whenever I tried to change the domain name of windows client in order to integrate them in a Linux domain , an error used to come and it was Windows client could not contact the domain. after long study and search found the solution in SAMBA HOWTO section 3.5.5. Hi guys,I'm trying to join a samba domain with my XP client but xp client says "domain can't be join". I see UDP packets from client to  pdc and other way. my pdc is ready and listen to connection with an ldap backend. I use smbldap-tools and they are configure such as nsswitch.conf. I once had a server running samba 3.5.10. It was a member of a windows domain. And when a domain user connected to it, it would automatically create a samba user and a unix user.

Now I reinstalled a server using kubuntu 12.04, running samba 3.6.3.

Can I create a domain using SAMBA and set up Active Directory with SAMBA on it? And by this I mean no windows servers involved. I would also like to be able to log in from a Windows machine. Preferably on OpenSuSE.

My objective is to have a domain with centralized authentication just like AD.

I have also here a Sol-10 with samba configured all is working out but just want to know if i set a password server pointing to a windows domain with Active Directory... do i still have to create a samba user on my Sol-10 or all username/pass authentication will be done on the windows domain?

hi. i have set samba domain. i am able to add win 7 and xp clients. all r working fine.But i have a doubt.

I've tried to figure it out for several months, with no success. I have a Windows 2008R2 domain, and one Linux server (first it was Fedora 15, then 16, and now it's Centos 6.2). I am trying to make it member of the domain to the extent possible. Ideally, I would like to login and get authenticated against domain (say, login 'DOMAIN+john').

hi, The samba 4.0 has finally been released.I was reading its features at https://www.samba.org/samba/news/releases/4.0.0.html .One thing which is confusing me is (as the release says ).
