our office wants to build a new server to handle our data, over the last 10 years our data was stored on CDs, DVDs, HDDs but now they want all of it in one place that is attached to the network for everybody in the office to access it.
the data is 20TB new data and the rest is old, the important now is to store these 20tb and gradually store the other 30tb over time.
I run a website that contains a lot of large files and even after buying the maximum amount of space my host provides on a single server (8x2TB drives) I am now running low on disk space.
I would like to add a second server purely for storing and serving files. My question is what is the best practice way for doing this?
Is it somehow possible to extend one's webspace by connecting to a server which has more space?
Lets say I have a remote server and a home server with plenty of free disk space. Can I somehow permanently mount the space on my home server on my remote server?
Dear all,
Good evening to all.
I've an HP DL380 G6 server, SAS hot swappable hdds connected with Smart Array P212 raid controller. I've configured RAID5 and installing RHEL 4.4 in the server. But its not detecting the hdds, i m suspecting that the OS doesn't have the driver for raid controller. I've downloaded the driver disk for the above controller from HP's site.
first thing: Sorry for my bad english ;)
I have to handle many (1.000 - 30.000) big files with a size from 200mb up to 2gb. The demand of this files is diffrent (0 - 300 downloads/file).
Hi,
Couple of sentences for background: I'm a software developer, whose task was to create a server software for our customer. Software is ready for deployment and customer has a new T4-1 SPARC, but somehow it also became my task also to setup the server.

Usually, people say, that using single public key on several servers is just as secure as using unique public keys on each of them. (If we're not talking about possibility of private key being compromised)
But... I don't get, if it's possible to "spoof your authentication" in the following case:
