After Linus began criticizing Red Hat over not upstreaming the Nouveau driver and Red Hat then attributing this on microcode issues less than a day ago, David Airlie has prepared a patch to introduce the Nouveau DRM in the Linux 2.6.33 kernel.
I'm trying to install proprietary nvidia graphics driver I downloaded from nvidia website. It will not install because it says that the "Nouveau kernel driver" needs to be disabled first.
I opened synaptic and uninstalled everything that had nvidia, nouveau, or jockey in its name. It still won't work.
What exactly do I need to do to disable the "Nouveau kernel driver"?
I don't know if the problem lies with the kernel's nouveau module, Xorg's nouveau driver, or both of my older onboard Nvidia graphics systems (9100 and 6150LE), but any time I try to boot a version 3.8 or 3.9 kernel, once modesetting kicks in, the signal to the monitor goes away and there's no switching to a tty. The vesa driver works, but won't cut it with my 1680x1050 monitor.
Greets all and congrats on the developers on bringing us another great version of Fedora.
hi all..
im new to linux...and here is what happened.
Prerequisite
Download nvidia.com the latest driver for x86-x64 (64-bit linux) or x86 (32-bit linux)
# do a yum update to make sure you're on newest kernel release, better to not have to do this twice
Code:
yum update
#should be install kernel headers and devel
Code:
yum -y install kernel-devel kernel-headers
Terminal:
#make sure Open source nouveau driver is blacklisted f
It works!! alright it was a video driver problem, and for some reason I think there is a problem with the nouveau driver and the kernel. I read this thread, and I don't think the problem is fixed yet. I reloaded the nvidia-304xx driver and suspend and hibernate work fine.
My 32-bit programs won't run. I think it's because they need a 32 bit nouveau driver. I only see a 64-bit driver available. Anyone knows how I can install a 32-bit nouveau-driver?
Hi folks, installed (apto)SID, everything went fine, using kernel 3.3-5.slh.3-aptosid-686I have a "Geforce 210".But I get these errors with the gfx rendering (right click the picture -> show image):any suggestions ?Proprietary driver install failed, nvidia-kernel-dkms / -glx driver install the "debian way" failed too, so it seems I have to use the f****ing nouveau driver ?!?G
