I am very new to shell scripting and I need to create a shell script that would keep track of inventory from a csv file. So if someone orders something online the program will subtract that item that way they can't sell more than they actually have. I have a rather conceptual question: I want to know which possibillity purposes people use shell scripting in the database area, specially in term of SQL?

For instance, I have these basic database operations such as INSERT, SELECT, DROP, etc. I just want to know in which way we can use shell scripting to support database operations?

I'm very new to Ubuntu. I hear people say "shell scripting", "bash scripting".

I wonder are they same? Or they are different?
