hi, I don't see a right click format option when I insert a pendrive in #!. I'm using the latest edition. Can anyone suggest how i can get this ? In ubuntu you just right click the drive icon and click format and keep clicking next to get it formatted. I've already seen tutorials to format it via command line.
I've tried to install Windows XP in my mom's netbook, the problem is best described here.
In the comments someone says that I can format the HDD with a pendrive of Ubuntu, and then reformat the HDD with another pendrive with Windwos XP, the thing is: I don't want to format the HDD unless it works, is there any way to install Windows XP from a pendrive Ubuntu Live??
I am using xp and ubuntu 9.10 in dual boot mode.
Previously when i formatted my xp and reinstalled it the mbr was changed and this the grub did'nt loaded up. Well i am out of that problem but now i want to format the xp from my linux i.e i don't want any other os in this hard disk apart from linux (ubuntu 9.10) so is it possible to format the xp from linux.
will it affect the mbr ?
Hi,
When I use the `date' command on RHEL5, I can get the time shown in 24 hr format. I wonder if the time can be shown in 12 hr format. But I don't want to use the `date +FORMAT' to do that, neither `alias date='date +FORMAT''. I just want a simple `date' to show time in 12hr format.
Is there any configuration file about the 12/24 hr format?
Hello friends, I have been using Ubuntu since 2 years.
Recently installed Fedora 17 on my laptop and with the help of Gnome-Tweak_Tool, I just permitted RIGHT CLICK on the desktop and is working fine. But when i attach a pendrive to the laptop, it is mounted on the desktop.
I write project where I need to identify certain file formats.
For some formats I have found signatures that I use for identifying easily (mp3, ogg), with another formats I have a big problem (like MPEG ADTS) - I just cannot find what kind of signature can be used for it.
I found out that File utility for Linux environment can do it.
I built a tool that uses arecord, but now i noticed that it doesn't work on some computers, as the format isn't supported by that hardware, how can i see/list what formats thats supported?
Arecords man page says:
-f --format=FORMAT
Sample format
Recognized sample formats are: S8 U8 S16_LE S16_BE U16_LE U16_BE S24_LE S24_BE U24_LE U24_BE S32_LE S32_BE U32_LE U32_BE FLOAT_LE FLOAT_BE FLOA
This is an odd issue but I thought I would ask here before going to a bug report. I've got a new WD Elements external USB 3.0 1TB drive (WDBPCK0010BBK). I'm running Ubuntu Precise 64bit with 3.2.0-23-generic kernel. It works fine, but when formatted as ext4, the drive light blinks constantly at approx 2x /sec even at idle. This happens whether it's running through USB 3 or 2.
