Unity-greeter crashes, and constantly respawns, not letting me in. So, I configured auto login but that won't start anything except Unity session. I changed the lightdm.conf file to run Xubuntu but Unity still shows up. If I create a new user, it will start in Xubuntu just fine.
Have been running Ubuntu on my desktop since 9.something... now on 11.04, but have not done any updates for a LONG time... I saw Unity and decided I wanted no part of that! I have a laptop that I installed Xubuntu 12.04 on, and like the Xubuntu MUCH better than Ubuntu... So, decided that I would put Xubuntu on the desktop.
I'm trying to run Unity 2d in xubuntu, I installed the packages but when I try to run it I get
[FATAL] Settings schema 'com.canonical.Unity' is not installed
How can I get it to run? I'd like to install as little stuff as possible.
Is there any way I can use LightDM themed with the Unity greeter with a systemd-based init? The lightdm-unity-greeter package available in the AUR depends upon lightdm-ubuntu, which conflicts with lightdm. lightdm provides a systemd unit, but lightdm-ubuntu does not. Is there another way to have lightdm-ubuntu start on boot even though it doesn't have systemd support?P.S.
Hi everyone;
I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop. It came with a 12.04 ubuntu installation. I really don't like unity, so I set up Xubuntu 12.04 with my existing iso. But after a few days i realized my OS is 32bit and laptop is 64bit. And there were some stability problems. Then I decided to go back to original system and install xubuntu-desktop on it. I did exactly like this.
What's Up?
OK, So After installing Xubuntu I couldent seem to get the net working, On my other computer with ubuntu, You just simply have to plug the etherport cable in and away you go.
Although you can see the eth0 in the edit connections bit, But you can use firefox, Seems weierd, to install Xubuntu alt. It needs the internet? So how'd it install?
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS uses Unity as the default Desktop Environment, which is based on Gnome 3. So Gnome 3 themes (window themes + GTK themes) works well in Unity as well as Gnome shell environment.
Hello,
I've been using Xubuntu for a month and everything was fine until this morning it failed to start.
I tried to make the NumLock on by default by adding the following line:
greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/numlockx on
to
leafpad/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
On the next boot I get "checking battery state.." and it freezes there.
Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot has released its first beta version for a few days, the final release will be put out 31 days later on October 13.
Today, I just new installed Ubuntu 11.10 daily build in my machine. Unity becomes more comfortable. New LightDM is cool, it’s easy to change the log-in screen background.
