how exactly do smartphones and tablets benefit from quad core?

http://ubuntuforums.org – Today most tablets and smartphones on the market have dual core processors on them. But some of them have quad core processors like iphone 5 and Nexus 7. I know dual core has benefits but how does quad core help when you basically can only run one app at a time? (Hardware)

My service provider is only selling this phone with the dual core processor, how does this stack up to the quad core??

I've also heard some problems with this phone are constant overheating and a draining battery life. Are these problems only apparent using the quad core??

If the latter part of 2012 was about 5 inch dual core smartphones, it's going to be quad core handsets with HD displays in the first half of 2013.

Quad-core phones? Old news. All the manufacturers are doing that now. How about a 48-core CPU for smartphones and tablets? Intel’s looking to shake up the mobile market and make that kind of processing power a reality within the next ten years.
