I can not seem to get the sound from gtk-recordmydekstop to record the sounds right off of my desktop or from my headset.

i did a clean install on ubuntu 12.10. Everything seemed fine at first including sound but after a while it stopped working.
Hi there,
First, it was no wireless (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2017612), which has not been fixed yet ](*,)
Now, my SOUND does not work! I get the bongo sounds when the login screen comes up, and it works fine in Windows Vista, but not in 12.04. ](*,)
When I type:alsamixer
It shows nothing is muted. It's set to 100% (high).
I'm not sure if this is the right board or should be in laptop issues, feel free to move it to another area if necessary.I recently got a new laptop (Sony Vaio VPCSC41FM) and the internal mic doesn't show up in alsamixer but mic boost and capture both show up, but don't give me sound on the mic.$ lspci|grep Audio

After Installation I Installed first Pulseaudio, then ALSA, but still I have no sound. Arch is up to date. I checked sound in Mint, so it isn't hardware problem.Drivers seem to be ok, I also unmuted all channels in alsamixer. speaker-test doesn't produce any noise. I have no idea why it doesn't work.
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.1 and i'm an 'mid-advanced' user, so my terminology may not be correct here.
System records (captures?) sound from the external microphone normally (checked with arecord). However, when I start any 'heavier' app (like firefox) it stops recording (arecord hangs).
Okay so I know that there are hundreds of these similar posts concerning no sound and let me assure you...I've gone through most of them and at least 15 different methods of trying to obtain ANY sound.
I currently have Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty dual installed with Vista on my Hp Pavilion Dv6 laptop. everything works great except for the no sound issue. This 'no sound issue' includes:
OS ubuntu 12.10
Works: arecord, aplay, audacity, solfege---these work!
Developer installed: Furthermore, I found source for and can build aplay.
I'm struggling with the ALSA docs as I write an application to visualize sound. Currently I get the PCM data reading a pipe to arecord . On a loaded computer at high data rate my program lags miserably.
